>How would you describe your leadership style?
Coaching and empowering with no fear of getting into the weeds with my team.
>As Principal Broker, what are the biggest challenges you anticipate in the next year [2025]?
One of the biggest challenges we anticipate is client churn. In the past, many of our clients were long-term investors with stable portfolios, but today we’re seeing more owners who are parking their homes with us temporarily; holding onto a low interest rate or waiting out the sales market. These clients are rarely in it for the long haul, and the average hold time is under three years. Without the stabilization of long-term investors, we’re doing significantly more work to onboard, manage, and off-board properties for the same overall return, creating a revolving door effect that stretches our team and limits the efficiencies that come with lasting relationships.
>How do you see AI entering your field?
Although much of our work still requires boots on the ground asset management, AI has already made a meaningful impact in property management. On the operational side, we’re seeing tools for tenant screening, maintenance diagnostics, and even chatbots that can respond to residents around the clock. Earlier this year, RealPage(one of the major software providers in our space) came under fire for using rent pricing tools to aggregate data across property management companies and push pricing recommendations. The price-fixing concerns that came out of that case were a huge reminder that just because we have access to powerful information doesn’t mean we should use it. Moving forward, the key to leveraging AI in housing will be doing so ethically, with transparency and fairness guiding how these tools are applied.
>What's a mistake you've made that became a major learning moment?
A mistake I’ve made in my career is trying to be everything to everyone. It left me stretched too thin and pulled away from what I do best. By 2022, I hit a level of burnout that I’m still working through today. I’m still learning, but one of the most important lessons has been the power of saying “no”—and remembering that no is a complete sentence.
>What's a favorite EO moment for you?
My favorite EO moment was in March at the Thriving in Business: How Oregon Brands Scale & Sustain Success event. The panel you hosted was incredible—I remember looking around the room and thinking, how did I end up surrounded by this caliber of business professionals? I left with a mile-long list of takeaways and couldn’t wait to share them with everyone I talked to afterward.
